Exploring New York City with kids can feel like searching for the perfect planet in a vast universe, so much energy, so many options, and parents trying to guide it all. But stepping into INTER (the immersive space-themed experience in SoHo) felt like discovering a whole new world, one where imagination bursts into reality.
From the moment we entered the massive former bank building on Broadway and Canal Street, the whole atmosphere shifted. The space was transformed completely, dark, alive with pulsating lights and cosmic tones. We started with a simulated “spaceship launch” in a room that felt like the real deal, lights dimmed, sounds swelled, and in that moment, we weren’t in SoHo at all, we were launching into the cosmos.

Passing through mirrored hallways with shifting lights, every step triggered something new: a tunnel of bioluminescent flora, a suspended net to climb like an astronaut bouncing in low gravity, and infinity rooms that dissolved all sense of boundaries. The pace slowed, curiosity took over, and it became less about seeing everything and more about feeling each moment. Every surface, every flicker of light invited us to play, to observe, to move a little differently.
One of the most enchanting moments came in a mirrored black-hole chamber. The walls seemed to stretch endlessly into space, reflecting endless points of light. There was a stillness there that pulled us in. It wasn’t loud or flashy, it was mesmerizing, the kind of quiet awe that invites you to look around and just exist in the moment.
Across the experience, ten interactive zones respond to movement and presence. In a glowing lab environment, hand motions created swirling constellations in real time. In another space, soft tones echoed through a darkened room, turning sound into something you could almost touch. Each transition felt seamless, guiding us from one wonder to the next.
By the final zone, there was a sense of fulfillment, like the end of a good story you didn’t want to put down. Even as we moved back into the real world and the city came into focus again, that dreamy sense of wonder stayed with us. The experience didn’t just entertain, it changed how we saw things for the rest of the day.
The timing felt just right. The whole experience took around an hour, long enough to feel immersive but short enough to stay fully energized. It’s also incredibly family-friendly. You can explore at your own pace, linger in favorite rooms, or move quickly through the ones that don’t land. No rules, no rush, just discovery.

Critics call INTER a “playground for the curious,” and for good reason. It’s not just an exhibit, it’s an invitation. To touch light, to see sound, to feel gravity shift. For kids, it sparks curiosity that words can’t always capture. And for parents, it offers the rare joy of experiencing something together that feels fresh and surprising for everyone.
If you’re looking for something different to do as a family in New York, a way to break out of the usual routine and get lost in something magical, INTER delivers. It’s not just a museum. It’s a journey, a shared adventure into the stars, without ever leaving SoHo.
